Mission of Spartans Hockey Club

The mission of the Spartans Hockey Club is to develop players’ individual skill and succeed in a team environment. The focus of our teams will be on player development with an emphasis on skating, hockey skills and conditioning. All players will receive the individual attention they require, and deserve to lift their game to the next level.

All players will receive two written evaluations during the season. These evaluations will highlight and commend the player’s strengths as well as identify areas of their game that need improvement. All evaluations will be discussed with the player and parent and an individual plan of action will be created.

Ice hockey is a team game that requires all five players on the ice working together to achieve success. Hockey is also a game of individual “battles” between players on the ice. Players need to develop their ability to win these “battles” and learn to play in “small area” situations.

Fritz Dietl Ice Rink, our primary practice facility, is not a standard size or shape ice rink. Being slightly larger than half of a full ice sheet, Fritz offers players the opportunity to train in “small area” drills to enhance their puck control abilities. It is also large enough to work on skating and edge work drills.

Ice hockey players do not improve by “wishing” it to happen. Players need to be dedicated and committed to an off-ice regiment to improve their strength and conditioning. Players also need frequent and consistent ice time to improve their skating ability and hockey skills. The focus of the SHC program will be player development with multiple on-ice days per week to train. The goal of every practice, or on-ice experience will be to build a player’s confidence and increase their hockey ability.

It is impossible to predict victory in any given game or a winning record for a hockey season. At SHC we can guarantee that every member of our program will be given an opportunity to succeed and improve as a player throughout the season.
