Our Mission
Spartans Hockey Club provides an opportunity for players of all ages and abilities to experience the great game of ice hockey in a manner that is fun, satisfying and rewarding for all participants. Under the direction of qualified adult volunteers, our primary emphasis is on increased participation, improved skills and maintaining a responsible environment for the conduct of youth hockey.
Our Philosophy
The Spartans Hockey Club is dedicated to providing an environment structured to introduce, teach and refine the fundamental skills of ice hockey. We focus on the development of individual skills in the context of a team game. Our overarching goals will be to allow our young adults to build character through athletic competition. By emphasizing sound skills development, and teaching team play, our players will become competitive at various levels. We will strive to nurture their enjoyment and enable a life long interest in the game. We will seek to emphasize key performance areas throughout every level of play: Skating, passing and receiving, shooting, checking and goalkeeping. Each coach will execute on building a program to develop these areas as appropriate at each level. Individual development will be emphasized and team play and tactics will be introduced as our players mature and become more skilled.
At Spartans Hockey Club all players will be given:

spring of 2013. The goal was to provide basic skating and ice hockey
instruction to Paramus kids at a reasonable price in hopes of creating a
youth hockey program in town. We held our first one-hour hockey clinic at
Fritz Dietl in April of that year with 13 skaters of varying ability. Since that
time the number of participants at each clinic has increased and a second
hour was added. Skaters from towns throughout Bergen County and New
York now attend the clinics. Today we run clinics year-round at Fritz Dietl
with an average of 20-25 skaters in each session.
The first hour of our clinics is for beginner skaters and players new to the
sport. These clinics focus on the basic elements of skating and give players
an introduction to the skills necessary to play ice hockey. The second hour is
is for experienced skaters and players with previous ice hockey experience.
In this clinic players perform drills and exercises to enhance and strengthen
their skating ability along with activities to further develop their
stickhandling and puck control.
In the Fall of 2014 our first house league team competed at the Ice House in
Hackensack. Every Fall and Spring since then we have placed teams into
leagues at all the local ice rinks. This past Spring at Floyd Hall Arena the
Spartans Hockey Club had nine teams, two in each age group Mite-Bantam
and three Peewee teams. Along with these teams we also created our first
Elite team which competed in local tournaments winning three of the four
tournaments they entered.
Spartans Hockey Club is in the process of building our first travel level team
and we hope to have that team competing in the Fall of 2019.
Spartans hockey Club strives to offer our members and participants high-
quality instruction along with opportunities to play the game of ice hockey
for a reasonable cost. Our program has grown consistently since 2013 due to
the dedication of the volunteer coaches involved and word-of-mouth by the
parents and players in the club.

Spartan Hockey Club clinics are designed as an introduction to the sport of ice hockey. The clinics focus on basic skating and ice hockey fundamentals. The participants of the clinics are grouped based on ability level and work at their own speed. The first session is designed for kids new to the sport of ice hockey with no or limited previous skating ability. The second session is geared towards experienced skaters looking to improve on their skating and puck handling skills.
The clinics are open to skaters of all ages and ability levels. There are kids from grades K-8 attending our clinics with many kids being on the ice for the first time. The clinics are a non-competitive environment where kids can learn the game of ice hockey without the pressure of league or team play. We run the clinics at a small rink with a great instructor to skater ratio. All clinics will be limited to a maximum of 25 skaters per session on a first come basis.
The clinics are held on Sunday evenings at Fritz Dietl Ice Rink in Westwood.
Along with basic clinics, we also offer a Power Skating and Advanced Skill clinics throughout the year.

Since most house leagues do not offer much, if any practice ice during their seasons, SHC purchase additional practice ice for all our teams. In most cases, players can expect to practice at least once a week and play one game per weekend during the house league season.
Information about our House League teams will be posted on our website at least six weeks prior to the start of the season. All roster spots are reserved on a first come basis.
